What a weekend to be a distance coach. Sometimes progress is measured in small personal bests, as a runner moves their times faster by a second per race, so that by the end of the season the improvement is actually quite sizeable. Sometimes progress is measured in the ability for a runner to think tactically, seeing the race unfold in an almost prescient manner, knowing when the time is right to make a move or to hold back. . . .

1) Still stunned by the passing of Prince, but somehow he seemed like one of those people who would never grow old. 2) The "Depths of Hell" video of the Irish 4x400 finish has gone viral, but I still keep watching it. The finish and the announcer's call are as epic as anything I've seen or heard in a long time. . . .

SLEEP LEOPARD
There are no pictures, because I don't think the world is ready to see me running bare-chested, but on this glorious April morning I ran an hour atop Chiquita Ridge in just shoes and shorts. It was a distinct violation of my personal uniform code, which stipulates that it is unrealistic to run bare-chested when weighing more than five pounds above ideal body weight. . . .
